Latvia Residence Permit for Family: Spouse and Children
A Latvian investment residence permit covers your spouse and children under 18 — they receive residence on the basis of family reunion, alongside your own permit, for the same up-to-five-year term. One investment carries the whole family; what it doesn't do is add anyone automatically: a separate application is filed for each family member, each receives their own card, and each card lives its own annual cycle.

How the Family Applications Work
Each member's file mirrors the principal's in miniature: passport copies, photographs, application forms, health insurance — plus criminal record certificates for everyone over 14, and marriage and birth certificates with apostille or legalization anchoring the family relationships. Financial means are shown for each applicant too, at lower reference amounts for spouses and children than for the principal.
The multiplication matters at three points. Fees are per person — EUR 160 review and EUR 45 card at standard speed, per applicant. Documents are per person — four sets of photographs, not one, and certificates whose chains each take their own weeks (the documents checklist sequences it all). And biometrics are per person, children included — which is why the final Riga trip is planned for the whole family at once rather than in instalments.
Living With the Family Permits
After the cards arrive, the family registers annually together — one trip covers everyone — with fresh insurance at roughly EUR 50 per head each year. Two structural points deserve every parent's attention. First, the family's status follows the principal's: the permits stand on the investor's qualifying basis, so a gap in that basis is a gap for everyone — one more reason investment transitions get planned, not improvised. Second, the route covers children under 18, and the decisive date is the filing date of the child's own application: a child under 18 at filing applies on the family basis, and turning 18 during the review generally doesn't change that — though the safe practice, and ours, is filing the children simultaneously with the investor rather than testing the edge. Families with a seventeen-year-old should sequence the filing with the birthday firmly in mind; an adult child needs a basis of their own (study, work).
What the family gets is the full package each: Schengen travel at 90/180, schooling and medical access in Latvia, and — for those who later choose it — their own path toward permanent residence and beyond. One investment, one process, one annual trip: the family dimension is where the Latvian programme's design shows its politeness.
